What to see and do in Barcelona in September?

September marks the return of one of the busiest periods in Barcelona's cultural calendar. The month's major event will be La Mercè 2026, which from 23 to 28 September will once again fill different parts of the city with culture and tradition. The celebration will also coincide with proposals such as La Setmana del Llibre en Català, which this year takes place on Passeig Lluís Companys, and the Carmina Burana concert, which will bring La Mercè's programme to Nou Barris.

Music will play a special role throughout the month. Music Bank World Tour will come to Barcelona for the first time with ATEEZ, ENHYPEN, NMIXX, xikers, NCT WISH and other K-Pop names; Plastilina Mosh will return to European stages with a stop at Sala Bikini, while The Living Tombstone will combine electronic rock, video games and digital culture at Razzmatazz. They will be joined by the Catalan metal of Catalunya Triomfant, the music of Stranger Things performed by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, and Grupo Firme's concert in Badalona.

Sport also has several important dates in store. FC Barcelona will begin its Champions League campaign against Feyenoord at Spotify Camp Nou, while the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will host the 24H de Barcelona de Automovilismo – Trofeo Fermín Vélez. For those who prefer urban culture, Extreme Barcelona will bring together competitions, exhibitions and free activities at Parc del Fòrum from 4 to 6 September.

The performing arts programme is no less impressive: Festival de Zarzuela continues at Teatre Apolo and, from 17 September, the same venue will host a new production of Sonrisas y lágrimas. Cinema will have its place with Korean Film Festival Barcelona, while the city's galleries will open a new art season with Barcelona Gallery Weekend.

The end of the month will bring even more activity with Terra i Gust at Parc de la Ciutadella and Castle Market in the gardens of Castillo de Castelldefels. Between major festivals, international concerts, sport, cinema, theatre and markets, September offers enough reasons to fill the calendar again after the summer.
