A novice who does not quite fit into the convent, seven children raised under strict discipline and a family about to change. Sonrisas y lágrimas returns to the stage in a new production by Theatre Properties, directed by Silvia Villaú.

The story is set in Austria at the end of the 1930s. María arrives at Captain Von Trapp’s home to look after his children and soon introduces something that seemed to have been lost there: music. Her spontaneous nature alters the household rules and creates new ties while, beyond its walls, Europe moves towards an increasingly turbulent period.
The production revives the celebrated compositions of Rodgers & Hammerstein and opts for large-scale staging that recreates the convent, the Von Trapp residence and Alpine landscapes.
Between family history, romance and political events, the musical brings back to the stage a classic that has accompanied several generations and retains its full ability to bring together audiences of different ages.
