Grand Départ of the Tour de France 2026
Catalonia will make history in 2026 by becoming the starting point of the Tour de France. From 4 to 6 July, the Grand Départ will put Barcelona at the centre of world cycling with three stages designed to offer spectacle from the first day and show some of the territory’s most emblematic landscapes.
About this event
The adventure will begin with a 19.6-kilometre team time trial linking Parc del Fòrum with Estadi Olímpic de Montjuïc. An explosive route that will test the teams’ collective power and offer a first battle for the yellow jersey with Barcelona’s skyline as a backdrop.
The second day will start in Tarragona and cover 168 kilometres along the Catalan coast before returning to the capital. The finish will again be on Montjuïc, where the ramps towards the castle promise to create gaps between the favourites.
The third stage will take the race from Granollers to Les Angles, already in French territory. It will be a 196-kilometre day that will lead the peloton towards the Pyrenees and open the mountainous chapter of the French race.
Beyond the competition, the Grand Départ will transform the host cities into spaces for celebration. Barcelona will host the Tour Festival from 26 June to 5 July, as well as the official presentation of the teams on 2 July. A great cycling celebration that will turn Catalan streets into the setting for one of the planet’s most watched sporting events.
