Exhibition «ICONS», Steve McCurry
ICONS offers a journey through images that many people have seen at some time, although they may not remember exactly where. Palau Martorell brings together around 150 large-format photographs to enter the visual universe of Steve McCurry and revisit more than forty years of a career that has influenced the contemporary way of looking at the world.
About this event
The exhibition crosses geographies, cultures and decades, but its centre always seems to be in the same place: people. Faces that hold the gaze, scenes suspended in time and apparently everyday moments that, captured by McCurry, acquire another dimension. Photographs that do not seem to seek only a memorable image, but a story behind it.
More than a retrospective, ICONS works as an emotional map built from fragments of life. Each photograph opens a small window onto distant places and, at the same time, connects with something recognisable: fragility, resilience, beauty or uncertainty.
Some images document an era and others end up becoming part of collective memory. This exhibition brings together many of them and reminds us that, sometimes, a single gaze can contain an entire story.
