‘Cinema Lliure’ beach festival

Cinema Lliure a la Platja returns this summer to confirm something Barcelona has known for years: few things work better than a film by the sea when night falls. From 16 July to 6 August, Sant Sebastià beach will once again be transformed into a large open-air cinema, where sand replaces seats and the sound of the waves accompanies every screening.

In its 15th edition, the festival retains the formula that has made it a Barcelona summer tradition: independent cinema, free admission and films in their original version that rarely find such a distinctive space in which to be seen. The programme combines international titles, new voices in auteur cinema and outstanding productions from the current scene, with names such as Carla Simón and proposals as unexpected as the queer western La misteriosa mirada del flamenco.

Beyond the screenings, Cinema Lliure retains its collective, open spirit. There will be sessions chosen by popular vote, short films by emerging talents and activities linked to caring for the marine environment, reminding us that the festival is also part of the beach landscape that hosts it.
