Session “Under the Eclipse: Jazz and the Physics of the Universe”
A solar eclipse can be much more than an astronomical phenomenon. It can become a gateway to some of the deepest questions about the universe. To mark the eclipse on 12 August, the session “Under the Eclipse: Jazz and the Physics of the Universe” offers a unique meeting of science, history and music to explore how these celestial events have influenced our way of understanding the cosmos.
About this event
The activity will bring together science historian Cristina Sans Ponseti, researcher Diego Blas from the Institute of High Energy Physics and the Néstor Giménez Trio, which will provide the soundtrack for an evening in which science communication and jazz improvisation will go hand in hand.
Throughout the session, the role eclipses have played in the development of scientific knowledge will be addressed, from observations that changed our view of the universe to the challenges that astrophysics and cosmology still pose today. At the same time, the music will engage in dialogue with these concepts through compositions inspired by cosmic phenomena, creating a bridge between rational exploration and sensory experience.
The proposal is part of the CCCB Radical Science programme, an initiative that encourages encounters between scientific research, humanistic thought and artistic creation. An invitation to contemplate the sky from different perspectives and discover how curiosity, whether through a telescope or a melody, remains one of the great forces driving knowledge.
