Arxiu Xcèntric queer film selection «Through Bodies»
Arxiu Xcèntric’s selection «A través dels cossos» offers a journey through some of the freest, most complex and most stimulating ways of thinking about queer experience through cinema. Far from closed definitions or fixed identities, the programme understands queer as a constant movement, a way of moving through bodies, desires, spaces and norms in order to question what seems established.
About this event
The playlist brings together fundamental works of experimental cinema by authors such as Jean Genet, Gunvor Nelson, VALIE EXPORT, Claudio Caldini, Matthias Müller and Jim Davis. Through highly diverse visual languages, the films explore issues related to gender, memory, sexuality, surveillance, the transformation of the body and forms of resistance to the mechanisms of social control.
The selected pieces invite us to view the body as a mutable, open territory, where the boundaries between identity, desire and representation become permeable. From the deconstruction of the patriarchal gaze to reflections on mourning, repression or emotional freedom, each work offers a singular perspective on what remains outside normative margins.
Curated by Miguel Armas, this proposal turns the film archive into a space for contemporary reflection. More than a succession of films, «A través dels cossos» proposes a conversation between images that traverse different eras and contexts in order to continue posing questions about the way we inhabit our bodies and construct our identities.
