Where to try the best Corona de la Almudena in Madrid?

9 November, the feast day of the Virgin of Almudena, is approaching, and pastry-shop windows fill with aromatic, filled crowns. This dessert appeared in 1978, when Madrid’s guild of pastry chefs organised a competition in honour of the city’s patron saint. The Corona de la Almudena is made with a brioche-like dough, with cream and almonds instead of candied fruit. Over time, different fillings have appeared, from classic cream to truffle. We have compiled the best places to try it.
