Sensory experience ‘Literary Telephone Boxes’

Telephone boxes are appearing on the streets of Madrid from which, instead of calls, literature emerges.

All you need to do is pick up the receiver to activate an audio programme featuring the voices of Lorca, Gloria Fuertes, Machado, Shakespeare, Emily Dickinson and excerpts from ‘Don Quijote’. The boxes serve as small listening points where you do not have to read the text, but listen to it directly in the city.

The project has already visited the neighbourhoods of Puente de Vallecas, Usera and Tetuán. The final installation will take place on 23 May on Bulevar Peña Gorbea in Puente de Vallecas, as part of the local book fair.

Each point operates for a limited time and is open to the public without registration. Literature can be listened to from the age of 10; the space is adapted for people with reduced mobility and its operation depends on weather conditions.
