New Year's Eve Party at Puerta del Sol

The Puerta del Sol square will once again become the heart of Spain's Christmas magic. On the last night of the year, thousands of people will gather here to welcome midnight to the chimes of the historic Correos clock. With the first strokes of the bell, the most eagerly awaited moment will begin: the tradition of eating twelve grapes, each one a symbol of a month filled with hope and good luck.

The custom was born in 1909, when winegrowers distributed their surplus harvest, promising happiness to those who ate grapes as midnight arrived. Today, it is impossible to imagine Spanish New Year's Eve without this ritual.

At 23:59, the famous ball will descend from the top of the tower, the carillon will sound and, immediately afterwards, the twelve chimes will be heard, to which the whole country will make its new wishes. After midnight, Madrid will be immersed in an atmosphere of music, dancing and joy, because it is a night when the city simply does not know how to sleep.
