Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Madrid

Pope Leo XIV will visit Spain from 6 to 12 June at the invitation of King Felipe VI and the Spanish Church. He will spend several days in Madrid, from 6 to 9 June, and the main event of the visit will be the gathering in Plaza de Cibeles, where a large public attendance is expected.

For the city, this is the pontiff’s return after 15 years. Preparations are already under way in the form of a major social campaign: Archidiócesis de Madrid has opened a call for volunteers and expects to have around 10,000 people helping with organisation, welcoming guests and supporting the events.

The itinerary will cover not only the capital, but also other cities in the country, including Barcelona and Islas Canarias. In Madrid, attention is focused chiefly on the main events and on caring for the pilgrims who will come to the gathering.

Some events will be accessible only with prior registration, and the main venues will have restricted-access areas according to capacity.
