San Cayetano festivities

The Embajadores neighbourhood will begin the August street-festival season with the San Cayetano festivities, one of the most traditional celebrations of the Madrid summer. From 5 to 7 August, the streets near El Rastro will fill with music, neighbourhood activities and a traditional atmosphere.

For several days, the neighbourhood’s squares and streets will host concerts, family offerings, competitions and activities for all audiences. One of the festival’s main focal points will be the area around Plaza General Vara del Rey, where residents and visitors can enjoy Madrid’s most popular spirit.

The San Cayetano festivities retain some of the capital’s most recognisable traditions: streets decorated with lanterns, residents dressed as chulapos and chulapas, live music and open-air gatherings that keep the neighbourhood character alive.

The celebration will culminate on 7 August, San Cayetano’s day, with the main events in honour of the saint.
