Boys’ and Girls’ Day at the Railway Museum

On 26 April, the Railway Museum celebrates Boys’ and Girls’ Day. Admission is free for children under 12 and the whole programme is designed for children to take part. The highlight is the family gymkhana: the route passes through the historic trains hall, where the challenges relate to details of the exhibits and episodes in the history of Madrid’s railway.

During the morning, children make their own railway worker’s cap in a workshop, and later the hall fills with music and scenes from the play «Who Wants to Be a Railway Worker?», where the history of the train is told through short episodes and songs.

Part of the exhibition remains open as the backdrop to the day. These include exhibitions about railway advertising of the past and Japanese graphic art, in which trains become part of artistic scenes.

The finale moves outdoors, to the Delicias Railway area. There, miniature trains run along a small route with tunnels and level crossings. The journey costs €1.50 and is presented as a symbolic ticket in support of the museum.
