Hayao Miyazaki Cycle

From 19 September to 25 October, you can spend six weekends in Madrid with the characters of Hayao Miyazaki. The mk2 Palacio de Hielo and mk2 Cine Paz cinemas will screen the director’s last six feature films. Forests inhabited by spirits, a mysterious bathhouse, and a castle with mechanical legs will once again fill the big screen.

The films will be shown in chronological order so that audiences can follow Miyazaki’s cinematic evolution over 26 years. The programme will begin with “Princess Mononoke”, followed by “Spirited Away”, “Howl’s Moving Castle”, “Ponyo on the Cliff”, and “The Wind Rises”. The cycle will conclude with “The Boy and the Heron”. It will be a good opportunity to revisit your favourite story or discover that film you’ve been putting off for so long.

The retrospective has been organised to mark the awarding of the Premio Princesa de Asturias de Comunicación y Humanidades to Studio Ghibli. The prize recognises the studio’s ability to tell universal stories that convey values such as empathy, friendship, and respect for nature.
