Exhibition «Yo fuí a E.G.B.»

Rubio exercise books, grandmother’s cooking, cassette tapes, school supplies and that childhood cologne. The exhibition «Yo fui a EGB», at Conde Duque, brings together objects, sounds and details that marked several generations’ daily lives and now make it possible to return to a recognisable era through its small details.

Inspired by the book by Javier Ikaz and Jorge Díaz, the exhibition is dedicated to the decades of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Visitors walk through recreated interiors and encounter characters from their childhood, such as a primary-school teacher, a television presenter and a video-shop assistant. The show brings together school materials, everyday objects, toys and other items that were part of daily life in that period.

Sounds and smells have a special place in the route. Television music, familiar aromas and interior details complete an exhibition centred on everyday life in an era before the widespread arrival of digital technologies.
