Exhibition «19th Century. The Century of Portraiture. Museo del Prado Collections. From the Enlightenment to modernity»

The Museo del Prado presents a new exhibition devoted entirely to portraiture in Spain. The exhibition features works made using every technique of representation: painting, sculpture, medal-making, miniature, watercolour, drawing, etching, lithography, daguerreotype and photography. This unique exhibition aims to present the public with part of the rich artistic heritage held by the Museo Nacional del Prado.

The exhibition focuses on the transformation of people’s public image in the 19th century. Divided into six areas, it invites visitors to immerse themselves in a period when the economic and social structures that have shaped our modernity were emerging. Through a collection of unique portraits, we will see the past as a source of answers to questions about modernity. Each route is accompanied by an audio guide with QR codes offering three different interpretations of the journey.
