About this event
Cibeles Palace has always played a crucial role in the life of the city. Since the middle of the 19th century, the post offices had become obsolete, so the State decided to create a new headquarters. It was an innovation that brought together the postal and telegraph services needed for the city’s development. Thus one of the city’s emblematic buildings was born.
The façades of Cibeles Palace remain the most recognisable today. The nearby goddess Cibeles is also an integral part.
Today, this place continues to embody the contradictory nature of the Spanish mentality: it is a combination of the Castilian and the cosmopolitan, the modern and the traditional, the majestic and the accessible. The whole is a mysterious complex that is difficult to get to know.
Two floors of the Palace and the CentroCentro viewpoint will be dedicated to an exhibition full of historiographical material. It is based on technical documents, images, memories and historical events.
