‘Victoria Eugenia’ exhibition

From 2 December, the Galería de las Colecciones Reales invites visitors to explore the life and legacy of Queen Victoria Eugenia of Battenberg. The exhibition features around 350 pieces, from personal documents and letters to rare photographs and artworks related to the queen. Each piece offers a contemporary view of her role as the monarch’s wife, combining her official duties with humanitarian activities, and reveals Victoria Eugenia’s multifaceted image in its historical and cultural context.

Victoria Eugenia, the youngest granddaughter of Queen Victoria I, married Alfonso XIII and was the mother of six children. In Spain, she brought gentleness and humanity to court etiquette, while actively devoting herself to charity. Under her direction, the Spanish Red Cross and the League against Tuberculosis were reformed, a school for nurses was created and initiatives to fight cancer were launched. The queen was not confined to ceremonies: she personally took part in social projects, helping those in need and promoting humanitarian ideas.

The exhibition allows visitors to see Victoria Eugenia’s life as an example of a modern and active approach to royal service, in which official duties intertwine harmoniously with social activity and humanitarian initiatives.
