Huguette Caland’s voice will be heard in Madrid, showing a retrospective perspective in which the artist has rewritten the language of contemporary art, turning bodies into lines and lines into a gesture of liberation.

Until 25 August, Museo Reina Sofía is hosting the exhibition «A Life in a Few Lines», Huguette Caland’s first large-scale retrospective in Europe. The French-Lebanese artist has created a unique artistic language in which bodies, words and lines become instruments of freedom and resistance.
Around 300 works —from painting and sculpture to textiles and archival materials— reflect her bold dialogue with themes of gender, eroticism, belonging and personal independence. Moving between Beirut, Paris and Venice Beach, Caland has forged a new understanding of home, the body and art, rejecting conventions and exploring the world through the eyes of a woman free from frameworks.
