A Botanical Walk through the Prado
How can the plants and flowers in the paintings of the great masters tell us about history, symbols and cultural traditions? The new route offers an unexpected perspective on the museum's collection, through the prism of botany.

The Museo del Prado invites you on a unique route, “A Botanical Walk through the Prado”, which will tell you about the role of botany in art until 30 March. On this tour, created by gardener and researcher Eduardo Barba Gómez, visitors will discover more than 40 species of plants and flowers depicted in 26 works by masters such as Titian, Velázquez, Rubens and Zurbarán.
Botany in the Prado's works is revealed not only as an element of decoration, but as a symbol in itself — mythological, religious or noble. Audio guides in Spanish and English are available for a deep immersion.
The museum continues experimenting with perception: since 2022 there have been exhibitions for the sense of smell, and now a botanical walk promises to be another way of discovering new facets of art.
