Exhibition “A Fairy Tale. Art and Activism in the Age of Rubbish”

The Community of Madrid hosts a temporary exhibition that breaks the mould and revalues what normally ends up in the rubbish. Under the banner of creative reuse, this travelling exhibition brings together works made exclusively from discarded materials, in homage to art as a tool for transformation. Twelve individual artists and one collective are taking part, all with a different view of collage, a technique which, from its beginnings with Picasso and Braque, has evolved into a visual language charged with contemporary force. Instead of conventional paper or cuttings, the creators have used plastics, metals, cardboard, torn fabrics and other remnants to create unique pieces with a clear message: what we discard can speak again.

Each work presents its own approach: some reclaim forgotten objects with a new aesthetic function; others create complex compositions that combine textures and meanings; and some incorporate a political background, denouncing the culture of consumption and waste. All of them, without exception, invite us to look at rubbish with new eyes. The exhibition not only celebrates the creative capacity of art, but also challenges us as a society: what if the change towards a more sustainable world began with how we see our waste? This exhibition encourages us to act, rethink and, above all, create from what seemed lost.
