Exhibition «Ukiyo-e. The Railway in the Floating World»
An exhibition of Japanese prints has opened at the Museo del Ferrocarril, showing the arrival of the train as a quiet change in the familiar world.

Until 7 June, the Museo del Ferrocarril is hosting the exhibition «Ukiyo-e. The Railway in the Floating World». Room 3000 displays 25 Japanese prints from the RailArte collection about how, at the end of the 19th century, the country heard the whistle of the train for the first time.
The first line between Shimbashi and Yokohama opened in 1872, and the steam locomotive immediately became a symbol of a new era. Ukiyo-e artists incorporated it into familiar landscapes, among fields, bridges and temples. The train does not displace the old world, but integrates gently into it, changing the rhythm and perception of distance.
