Exhibition «The Circle Project. Bouchra Khalili»
At La Casa Encendida, works by Bouchra Khalili will be presented focusing on migrants’ struggle for equal rights and the possibility of speaking for themselves.

From 10 September to 29 November, the cultural centre La Casa Encendida will present for the first time in Madrid a selection of works by the Franco-Moroccan artist Bouchra Khalili. The exhibition will address the history of the Arab Workers’ Movement and the theatre groups Al Assifa y Al Halaka, founded in 1973 by Maghrebi immigrants in France.
The exhibition «The Circle Project» brings together the video installations «The Circle» and «The Storytellers», as well as the mural work «Timeline for a Constellation». Through memories, poetry, and documentary materials, the artist explores migrants’ struggle for equal labour rights and access to housing, as well as for cultural and artistic self-representation.
Bouchra Khalili has previously presented her work at MoMA, the Bienal de Venecia, the Palais de Tokyo, and MACBA. The Madrid project continues her research into collective memory and the role of art as a form of resistance against systems of power.
