“Tabita Rezaire. Pumpkin Nebula” Exhibition

The Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza de Madrid has opened artist Tabita Rezaire’s first solo exhibition in Spain. The project, entitled Pumpkin Nebula, invites the public to immerse themselves in a special world through three major immersive installations: Des/astres, Omo Elu and OMI: Yemoja Temple.

Two installations are devoted to Yemojé, the spirit of water and mother of rivers and oceans. This image symbolises life, its origin and its eternal movement. The artist combines modern technology with spiritual practices. The result is a “fluid universe”. The viewer senses how time and life move in circles, like the waves of a river or ocean. Every touch of light and sound reinforces the feeling of presence and involvement.

Tabita Rezaire was born in France and now lives in French Guiana. She studies how technology, art and spiritual practices intersect. In her work, she combines African, Indigenous and other traditions with contemporary digital media.

The exhibition continues the museum’s and the TBA21 foundation’s line of work on postcolonial societies. They previously showed the projects The Colonial Memory of Thyssen-Bornemisza and Stephanie Comilang. In Search of Life.
