Exhibition «I am Ashurbanipal, king of the world, king of Assyria»
This spring, in Madrid, ancient Assyria will speak with the voice of its most powerful and forgotten king: Ashurbanipal, warrior, intellectual and owner of the world’s first great library.
About this event
CaixaForum is preparing a major historical premiere. From 9 April to 4 October 2026, it will host the exhibition «I am Ashurbanipal», created in collaboration with the British Museum.
The exhibition is dedicated to the last great king of Assyria, a military commander, politician and one of the most cultured rulers of the ancient world. More than 150 objects, from reliefs and sculptures to luxury items, show the empire at its height and the man who set out to gather all the knowledge of his age.
The exhibition speaks not only of power and wars, but also of culture, memory and why ancient empires still help us understand today’s world.
