Exhibition «Revista Afal. Small and free»

Created in 1956 in Almería by José María Artero and Carlos Pérez Siquier, Afal became a platform for young photographers and contributed to the renewal of Spanish visual culture. The exhibition presents the work of the magazine’s main contributors: Carlos Pérez Siquier, Joan Colom, Gabriel Quagliado, Ramón Masats, Oriol Maspons, Xavier Miserachs and others.

The photographs reflect the spirit of Afal, which shuns constructed scenes and prefers everyday scenes, imbued with a critical gaze and great artistic subtlety. Among the most notable works are the portrait of Salvador Dalí made by Mizerax and subjects that explore social life in Spain.

The exhibition is completed by the magazine’s 36 issues and archival material. Visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the period and feel the impact of this unique publication through pages devoted to cinema, poetry, humour and censorship.
