Exhibition «Portrait of Doña Regla Manjón, Countess of Lebrija»
At Museo Cerralbo, a new cycle of exhibitions begins a journey through the women who were at the origins of cultural-heritage conservation in Spain.

Museo Cerralbo opens a new cycle of the «Obras de paso» project, dedicated to women who, at the end of the 19th century, took part in the conservation of cultural heritage and awakened interest in it in their time. The exhibition will remain open from 29 April to 6 September.
The cycle opens with the portrait of Doña Regla Manjon, Countess of Lebrija, painted by Antonio Rivas in 1869. In it, she appears with a theatrical air, linked to the social life of Madrid. The work comes from the palace-museum of the countess in Seville.
The project traces a line around women whose activity was linked to art, archaeology and the idea of preserving cultural values. In this context, the relationship of the Countess of Lebrija with the Marquis of Cerralbo also gains importance, through the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando and research at Roman Italica.
Later, the portrait of Emilia Pardo Bazán will be added to the exhibition. Together they form an account of the first steps in awareness of the value of cultural heritage and of the people who defended it at a time when this subject was barely beginning to gain relevance.
