Exhibition ‘Portrayed: Women’s Studios’
The Museo del Romanticismo opens the doors to a world where women turned the photographic studio into a space for freedom, experimentation and personal expression.
About this event
Until 25 January, the museum presents Portrayed, an exhibition showing how nineteenth-century women made photography a space for creativity and autonomy.
Through portraits, visiting cards and studio objects, the exhibition reveals how its protagonists transformed studios into settings for play and experimentation, controlling their own image. At the centre of the exhibition is the ‘dressing-room’, an intimate corner where women could prepare and explore their identity before posing for the camera.
In addition, Portrayed shows nineteenth-century women not only as objects but also as active participants in the history of photography: creators, collectors and spectators whose contribution to the development of art and technique was fundamental.
