Colonisation villages. Views of an invented landscape

Fundación ICO has prepared an exhibition showing the intense transformation of Spain's agricultural landscape carried out by the Instituto Nacional de Colonización (INC). Applying a new agrarian reform, it planned the construction of new hydraulic structures and more than 300 new villages in the countryside.

The exhibition will feature around 200 works, including photographs, documents, drawings, graphics and plans. Visitors will be shown the current state of the villages and the everyday lives of local residents.

The exhibition begins with a historical context explaining the emergence of new villages and the evolution of the landscape. At the end, the exhibition moves on to sections on architecture and art and to contemporary inhabitants.
