Italian Giacomo Puccini is not only famous as a composer; he was also passionate about photography, although that passion had not been published until now. Now, at the Teatro Real, we can see his vision of a world in which the protagonists are by no means human figures.
Giacomo Puccini became interested in this discipline in 1894, when photography became popular among enthusiastic amateurs. We can see the world through his lyrical eyes, in which nature takes centre stage. His snapshots capture visual compositions with a personal touch.
The amateur photographer was captivated by places that go beyond simple tourist destinations. In New York, he was impressed by the urban landscape and the great bridges; in Egypt, by the landscapes and the people, perhaps even more than by the monuments. It is everyday life that arouses his curiosity. And almost everywhere there is a distinctive male silhouette: Puccini’s own shadow.
