Exhibition «Plaza Mayor de Madrid: gazes that dwell»

The historic Plaza Mayor will temporarily become the focus of a new exhibition at the Imprenta Municipal – Artes del Libro. Until 12 April, photographs taken by residents of the square and neighbouring homes will be displayed here: people who see this place not as a tourist attraction, but as part of their everyday lives.

In the photographs, the square is revealed from an unusual perspective: morning light in the windows, quiet conversations on balconies, familiar routes and moments that usually remain beyond the reach of tourist cameras. In these images, the monumental space becomes a living urban world where memory, personal stories and the rhythm of everyday life coexist.

The exhibition echoes the book Al umbral de la Plaza Mayor, by author Olivier Sterckx. Together, they form a quiet, polyphonic account of the square.
