«Ofertorio. Greta Alfaro» exhibition
An exhibition will open in the Nave 0 space at Matadero, in which everyday elements such as food, images and consumption form part of a debate on contemporary rituals.
About this event
From 4 June to 30 July, the project Ofertorio by artist Greta Alfaro, included in the official programme of PHotoESPAÑA 2026, can be seen here. The exhibition explores how conceptions of sacrifice, gift and the transformation of matter have changed over recent centuries.
In the past, these processes were linked to temples, ceremonies and public rituals. Today, they exist in other forms: in advertising, visual culture, commerce and everyday consumption. It is precisely this change that becomes the project’s starting point.
For the exhibition, the Nave 0 space is transformed into a kind of architectural installation. The arrangement of the works recalls the structure of temples, but, instead of religious symbols, the viewer is invited to reflect on the role that images, desires and mechanisms of consumption play in contemporary life.
Greta Alfaro’s works offer no predetermined conclusions. The artist investigates how relationships between the body, space and the observer’s gaze change, and shows that many ancient practices have not disappeared, but have simply taken on new forms.
