The Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza is hosting an immersive exhibition that is French artist Tabitha Rezaire's first solo show in Spain. It brings together two striking installations. The artist invites everyone to immerse themselves in a sensory experience that will connect the viewer with non-Western practices erased by colonisation.
The central work of the exhibition is Des/astres. It is a circular installation that evokes the places of gathering and celebration known in Guyanese culture. The space features an audiovisual projection on the ceiling that explores the human connection with nature and the universe. The project shows images of the Amazon rainforest and its sacred trees. All of them are subject to human impact and pollution.
The second installation is Omi: Templo de Yemoja. It offers a sensory experience dedicated to Yemoja, the orisha and goddess of the Yoruba religion originating in West Africa, who is considered the mother of rivers and oceans, a symbol of the origin and continuity of life. This exhibition explores the relationship between biology and spirituality, with water as its main motif.
