«Trans Nation. A Project by Antonio López» exhibition
The Museum of the Americas hosts a photographic project that brings past and present together in one gaze: through the stories of Indigenous transgender women, it reveals how conceptions of gender have changed and the price that has had to be paid for it.

This spring, the Museum of the Americas will host an important exhibition about people whose stories have long remained on the margins. Until 20 September, the La Tapada room presents Antonio López Díaz’s photographic project, focused on Indigenous transgender women of the Americas.
His works are structured as a conversation through time: from pre-colonial societies, where gender diversity was part of the norm, to the reality shaped after the arrival of Europeans. With the new moral system, traditional roles also disappeared: they were displaced, simplified and silenced.
But this project is not only about loss. It also speaks of strength: of how the protagonists support one another, rebuild their communities and redefine their place.
