Exhibition «Miguel Cabrera. The Rules of Art of a New Spanish Painter»

The Museo de América will host a temporary exhibition presenting a series by a Mexican artist that explores the life of Madonna, her history and her arrival in Spain in the 18th century.

Since 2019, the Museo de América has led a project to study and conserve the series. Its contribution to knowledge of New Spanish Baroque painting and to the conservation of canvas painting has been invaluable. The result of this work will be seen in the exhibition.

The exhibition is divided into several sections. The first is devoted to Miguel Cabrera and his importance in 18th-century Mexico. It focuses on his social and working context, as well as his artistic interests. The second section is the main one and brings together twelve paintings from the Museo de las Américas. The third section focuses on the painting techniques used by Miguel Cabrera in this series.

Twenty-three paintings from the Museo de las Américas collection will be shown to the public as a result of conservation and technical research.
