Marina Vargas exhibition ‘Revelations’
What role have women played in the history of the sacred and the spiritual? Why have their contributions so often remained in the shadows? Artist Marina Vargas invites viewers to an exhibition in which, through art, she recovers lost voices by reinterpreting female images in culture, mythology and religion.

Until 4 May at Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, you can enjoy ‘Revelations’, an exhibition forming part of the ‘Cora’ series, in which the museum reinterprets the work of contemporary women artists from a gender perspective.
In her project, Marina Vargas explores the silenced role of women in history, especially in the spiritual and sacred sphere. Drawing on the work of feminist theologians such as Karen King, Cynthia Bourgeault and Meggan Watterson, she makes her way through the images and narratives of art, subverting patriarchal constructions.
The starting point is the figure of María Magdalena, through whom the artist reveals women’s invisible contribution. For the first time, this exhibition will present her new works, which shed light on forgotten stories.
