Luis Pérez Calvo at CentroCentro: his "impossible Madrid", free until 26 April

CentroCentro is hosting until 26 April an exhibition dedicated to artist Luis Pérez Calvo, which explores Spanish popular culture of the 1960s–80s through drawing, painting, collage and ceramics.

The exhibition presents more than five hundred works in which everyday objects such as comics, vinyl records and urban posters intertwine with references to classical art, creating a world in which the popular and the historical meet. Key pieces include two murals featuring «Madrid impossible», an imaginary map of the city where museums, galleries, modern buildings, neon signs and emblematic streets coexist, with their striking «artist cards» in the background.

Pérez Calvo's works invite viewers to explore the city's collective memory and cultural life from a playful and personal perspective, creating a visually rich experience, full of humour, melancholy and details that connect Madrid's past and present.

Updated · 9 March 2026 12:06 The exhibition, curated by Carlos Delgado Mayordomo, is structured around two large murals made in situ and a selection of “artist trading cards” that function as a living archive of Madrid's artistic ecosystem over the past decade, highlighting museums, galleries, concert venues and alternative spaces. These cards, inspired by the albums Pérez Calvo traded as a child at El Rastro, champion analogue collecting over the digital image and turn neighbourhood memories, comics and cinema posters into a sentimental cartography of Madrid.
