Exhibition «Leica. A century of photography»

In 1925, the Leica I was launched, a lightweight camera that allowed photographers to move freely and capture scenes that had until then been impossible. To commemorate the century that has passed since that moment, Madrid will bring together in a single space more than 170 images and a collection of original cameras that tell the story of the evolution of modern photography.

The exhibition, organised at Fernán Gómez Centro Cultural de la Villa, will show works by internationally renowned authors alongside historic pieces such as the first Leica made and other models that marked milestones in the history of photographic design. The tour addresses universal themes such as urban life, nature, social conflicts and the human portrait, reflecting how the camera became a privileged witness to the 20th century.

The celebration is not limited to this space: Leica Gallery Madrid, on José Ortega y Gasset Street, will host a complementary selection of photographs that broaden the experience. With these two venues, the Spanish capital becomes host to Leica's largest retrospective in its centenary year, inviting the public to discover how a technical tool became a cultural symbol.
