«Latina: Woman, Music and Glamour in the Gladys Palmera Collection» exhibition
Casa de América will inaugurate a unique exhibition dedicated to icons of the stage, from Josephine Baker to Chavela Vargas. Costumes, records and rare archives will tell the story of the struggle, glamour and art that changed the industry.

Casa de América inaugurates a major exhibition, «Latina: Woman, Music and Glamour in the Gladys Palmera Collection». Visitors will be able to view more than 500 rare pieces free of charge, from vinyl records and posters to stage costumes worn by stars such as Josephine Baker and Celia Cruz.
The exhibition focuses on women’s influence in the Latin American music industry. It highlights singers and actresses who broke barriers in a male-dominated world, from Lupe Vélez and Dolores del Río to Chavela Vargas and Mercedes Sosa. The exhibition shows the evolution of their image, from glamour and success to the complexities of cultural stereotypes.
The exhibition will be open from 4 April to 5 July and promises to be one of spring’s main cultural events.
