Exhibition «The Stones of the Sky. Isabel Muñoz»
In the space of the Galería de las Colecciones Reales, a project will be presented in which the El Escorial monastery and the surrounding La Herrería forest are viewed as a single natural and historical space.
About this event
From 4 June to 6 September, the exhibition by Isabel Muñoz, winner of the National Photography Prize, included in the PHotoESPAÑA 2026 programme, can be visited here. Its focus is stone as a material that brings together natural time, the human longing for eternity and the ways in which human beings give meaning to the world around them through matter.
The project transcends the limits of classical photography. Muñoz uses photographs, videos, objects and installations to create a multilayered space of perception, where the image becomes a physical experience. The work is based on research into the territory of El Escorial and the figure of Felipe II, who saw the monastery as part of a symbolic system linked to the idea of cosmic order and the image of the Temple of Jerusalem.
The exhibition is part of the «Field Notebooks» programme, dedicated to the natural landscapes of the royal residences managed by Patrimonio Nacional.
