The Monkey Cage

The Museo ABC building has undergone many changes throughout its history. It was first the headquarters of the first Cervecería Mahou, then housed the exhibitions of Museo ABC, and is now shared by Centro Cultural Clara del Rey and Museo ABC. The latter opened its doors a few weeks ago for visitors to enjoy the exhibition «The Monkey Cage».

With this new exhibition, the museum aims to establish contact with Madrid audiences after the museum’s nomadic existence. To carry out this idea, six curators have made selections representing the six phases of the existence of the Blanco y Negro magazine, from its founding in 1891 to its closure in 2000. The magazine is known for its combination of information and high-quality illustrations created by renowned artists. The exhibition will take visitors on a fascinating chronological journey through illustration and drawing in Spain and will explore images of Spanish society and its evolution.
