Jeans are now firmly rooted in our everyday lives. We wear them for every kind of occasion, whether a business meeting or a simple dinner with friends. Today, jeans are breaking down new class barriers around the world, even though they were originally created for the working class. It is hard to believe that this garment has undergone such a change in perception: it is now also produced by specialist companies such as Levi's and world-renowned designers.
The exhibition “Jeans, from the Street to the Ritz” will introduce you to the history of this fabric. You will go from the material's own origins in the 17th century, see the birth of denim fabric in the 19th century and marvel at the scale of its spread in the 20th century. This exhibition will not show you a simple piece of fabric: here, jeans are a symbol of masculinity and a symbol of women's empowerment. You will see modern production from scratch and the experiments of the most famous companies and designers, such as Christian Lacroix.
More than two hundred garments will be displayed, accompanied by graphic documentation and accessories from the Col·lecció Antoni de Montpalau.
