Exhibition «Clothing in the Iron Age: identity in the past»
From 15 July to 12 October 2025, Museo Arqueológico Nacional (Madrid) presents the exhibition «Clothing in the Iron Age: identity in the past», inspiration in the present, a proposal inviting reflection on how clothing was much more than protection: a language of power, belonging and culture in the Iberian Peninsula between the eighth and first centuries BC.
About this event
Located in Vitrina Cero on Floor 0, the exhibition combines archaeological remains, classical sources and experimental reconstructions to bring the textiles, materials and techniques of protohistoric communities closer to the public. The project, led by the museum’s Department of Protohistory and Colonisations, is enriched by the participation of Centro Superior de Diseño de Moda de Madrid (UPM), whose designers reinterpret ancient pieces from a contemporary perspective.
The route thus becomes a bridge between archaeology and contemporary creativity. Garments inspired by historical finds show how clothing from more than two thousand years ago remains a powerful source of inspiration for today’s fashion, and how it was once a clear symbol of social and cultural identity. A unique opportunity to discover our ancestors’ textile heritage and its echo in today’s aesthetic.
