“Hortaleza, a Journey Through Time” Exhibition

The Hortaleza, a Journey Through Time exhibition is a journey through the centuries of the history of the Hortaleza and Canillas neighbourhoods, marking the 75th anniversary of their annexation to Madrid. It can be visited until 31 May in the El Silos building.

The exhibition is arranged floor by floor and chronologically: from the 13th century to the present day. On every level there are photographs, characters, buildings and customs that bring the past to life.

The fifth floor tells the story of Hortales and Canillas as towns. The fourth deals with the streets, life and changes of the early 20th century. The third covers the construction of new neighbourhoods after the annexation and the birth of the festivities. The second addresses landmark buildings, population growth and local administration in the 21st century. The sixth is the finale: a video summary of the exhibition and a display of objects from the popular 1950s tavern “El Garnacho”.
