«Helnwein: inverted worlds» exhibition

Until 31 July, SOLO Independencia presents an exhibition dedicated to Gottfried Helnwein, one of the most singular and unsettling figures in contemporary art. The Austrian-Irish creator has built a career marked by images of great visual impact that explore the contradictions of modern society, the fragility of childhood and the different ways in which power is exercised.

The exhibition brings together some of his most representative works alongside pieces from the SOLO collection, including sculptures, paintings and personal works that allow visitors to trace the different stages of his artistic production. Through a hyperrealist and deeply symbolic language, Helnwein creates scenes in which the familiar becomes unsettling and popular culture takes on new meanings.

Iconic characters such as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck appear transformed into ambiguous figures, while references to manga, advertising and the collective imagination coexist with images marked by tension, memory and conflict. His portraits of bandaged or injured children take centre stage, becoming metaphors for human vulnerability and for the wounds left by violence and history.
