From 19 February to 17 May, Fundación MAPFRE’s Recoletos gallery will host an exhibition by photographer Helen Levitt, one of the key figures in 20th-century street photography. The show brings together around 200 photographs taken in New York over decades of work: children’s games, chance gestures and scenes from the city’s everyday life.
The exhibition is structured as a complete account of Levitt’s creative career, from her early works of the 1930s to her more mature series, in which documentary practice combines with subtle poetic quality. Levitt’s camera captures street life without artifice, turning fleeting moments into images of profound social and human meaning.
