Exhibition «Photography and drawings. Dora Maar»

Museo Lázaro Galdiano presents an exhibition dedicated to Dora Maar, a key figure in surrealism and an artist of many talents, which can be visited in Madrid until 14 September 2025. The show brings together little-known photographs and drawings by the artist, especially works made in the early 1930s.

Under the artistic name Dora Maar, Dora Markovitch developed a restless, multidisciplinary body of work spanning photography, drawing, collage and writing. Curated by Irene Calvo, this exhibition makes it possible to rediscover the artist through pieces that have rarely been shown and offer a more personal and introspective approach to her creative universe.

One of the most distinctive aspects of this selection is its connection with Maar’s 1933 journey to Spain. During her stay, she captured with her camera scenes of everyday life in a country on the eve of the Civil War. These images, full of tension and beauty, have a moving historical and artistic value today.

The exhibition will officially open on Thursday 8 May 2025 and promises to be a unique opportunity to explore a lesser-known stage of Dora Maar’s work, far from the myth and closer to the real artist.
