Exhibition «Expressionism. An art of cinema»

The Mateo Inurria room at Fundación Canal invites visitors to an exhibition that immerses them in the magic of Expressionism and its close relationship with early 20th-century cinema, which will remain open until 4 January.

For the first time in Spain, the public will be able to immerse themselves in a unique dialogue between art and cinema: from The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari to Metropolis, from Otto Dix’s unsettling urban landscapes to Käthe Kollwitz’s anguished faces. 152 works and film excerpts create a fascinating world of emotions, distorted perspectives and dreamlike images that continues to inspire contemporary directors, from Tim Burton to Guillermo del Toro and David Lynch.

Expressionism broke down the boundaries between the arts, seeking to unite life and creation in a single emotional universe. Colour, form and extreme emotions became instruments for revealing a hidden world, and cinema adopted this magic, transforming screens into a space of unease, beauty and visionary fantasies, which remain relevant today.
