Holy Week Exhibition

Until 5 April, Plaza Mayor in Madrid hosts an exhibition dedicated to Holy Week, presenting the nineteen brotherhoods that give the city a unique rhythm and solemnity. Visitors will be able to travel through five centuries of history and devotion, discovering how the traditions and spirit of Madrid’s Holy Week were forged.

The exhibition spans neighbourhoods from Puente Vallecas to Carabanchel, from Delicias to Villaverde and Las Letras, recounting the festival’s main events and figures. It highlights the oldest brotherhoods, such as the Real Congregación de Esclavos de María Santísima de los Siete Dolores y Cristo de la Agonía y Descendimiento de la Santa Cruz, as well as emblematic images such as Jesús Nazareno de Medinaceli, venerated even by the royal family. «La Borriquita de Madrid», which marks the beginning of Palm Sunday celebrations, also holds a special place.

Visitors will be able to see up close the relics, sculptures and procession elements that, over the centuries, have defined the character and singularity of Madrid’s Holy Week. The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to get closer to the history, devotion and cultural richness of these brotherhoods, which form part of Madrid’s soul.
