Saul Steinberg exhibition

In October, one of the capital’s most anticipated exhibitions will open: an exhibition of works by Saul Steinberg. The exhibition will show how he saw art. All his works reflect the context of their time. This is why he became one of the most influential illustrators of the twentieth century. You can see his work in the popular magazine The New Yorker, with which he collaborated for six decades.

The Romanian illustrator realised something interesting: when people see a drawing in a newspaper, it seems funny to them, but when the same drawing hangs in a museum, it immediately becomes an artistic masterpiece. That was the principle he followed. Saul Steinberg defined himself as “a writer who draws”. His drawings use a wide variety of techniques, from painting to photomontage. Critics of the time even compared the illustrator with Picasso because of the diversity of aesthetic languages he employed.
